the only panic at the disco song, i think, that i will ever truly, truly love is nine in the afternoon.
so today was alternately a good and a sucky day. zimmerli was fun, a massive train of volunteers constantly changing water or getting paper or giving out paper towels while parents and children splattered out abstract cityscapes. afterwards, not so good. stood in front of my little brother's classroom for maybe half an hour, where i basically died of bored and then, when his class finally finished, he basically /ran out/ and i only had enough time to grab his jacket. D: and he refused to be good and just /stay in one place/, no he had to /run out into hte middle of the basketball game/ with me chasing him in dress shoes and the referee screeching on his whistle and just god.
i hope i never, ever, spawn. D: if i ever say i want a child please point me back to this entry. it will do me a world of good, i'm sure.
kitkat keeps sending me really really depressing rydon patd fic. like holy shit depressing. death! angst! unrequited love! what more could a girl ask for?
it did amuse me, however, to see the disclaimers. when you're writing fanfic about a book or a tv series or a manga you say 'these characters do not belong to me'. when you write a fanfic about /real people/ you say 'this is only a product of my sick, sick imagination and did not actually happen. no matter how much i wished it did'.
god.
so i ended up staying up until 3am alternately reading patd fic and a large quantity of dumb PWPs and fruitytooty BL manga so i didn't end up jumping out of the window out of sorrow/sympathy for the horrible endings everyone gets. man, when did the happi endo become out of fashion?
except now i have RUN OUT OF FIC AND BL MANGA. scary isn't it.
flipping through slashatthedisco 'cuz, uhm, i'unno man. i started out actually looking at the story summaries and ended up just going through to look at all the icons. because foozles is an icon whore /yes/. !
tomorrow is my interview for harvard and while i'm trying not to be too worried about it i still have that ohgodno feeling in my stomach. :<
ah hah hah hah hah.
i think, in a way, interviews are one of those things that, no matter how many times you go through one, you /never/ get used to it. the butterflies always come. the dry mouth. the slighty shaking. whether or not you manage to keep a hold on yourself is another story but that initial panic? is always gonna be there.
like performing on stage. D:
unfortunate things in life.
okay yeah you know what it is super late and i probably should get back to sleep.
or something.
uh yeah.
night.
Sunday, March 2
Saturday, August 25
well that's that
SO AFTER MUCH EFFORT
i have finally mastered crossposting to /at least/ blogger and LJ.
i count this as a success, even if xanga is being buggy. WHY XANGA WHY.
yes.
now for the obligatory anime/manga rant
i would cut for your sanity, except LJ-cuts only work for, well, LJ, and i suppose blogger wouldn't be very happy with mysterious incomprehensible tags appearing randomly.
so.
downloading tengen toppa gurren lagann (god that has to be one of the longest, most difficult titles in the world. D:!)
i started this morning and would have been finished by, like, three if it weren't for the fact that my internet died around twelve without my knowing and then (clearly) all torrenting stopped.
i didn't realize the internet died until i woke up from my nap (around six) so yeah.
THERE WENT SIX HOURS OF POSSIBLE DOWNLOAD TIME.
oh well.
only episodes 1-13. there's another batch for 17-20, but everything else i'm going to have to single-episode download thorugh torrent.
you know i'm only watching it for kamina. hahaha... OH KAMINA.
sigh.
i'm still not done with deathnote but i've kind of gotten to the point where i'm not sure i really want to keep watching episode by episode. i'll probably end up just watching the Cool Episodes (i.e. 1st ep, Meet L ep, crazy!laugh ep, chains ep, L ded ep, last ep)*
*YES I AM SKIPPING PRETTY MUCH THE WHOLE NEAR + MELLO ARC. SO SUE ME. (but don't really as i have nots the monies. D:!)
yeah.
in manga news (haha manganews... *shot*) i sent vivi what has to be 1/2 of the scanslators i know, since she claimed she was bored and needed editing jobs.
also, chapter of usotsuki wo dareda, by which i mean oh god hiromu you idiot. ! also ichita but ahaha orange jelly ftw!
airgear is getting updated surprisingly fast although i'm rather disappointed with the grammar/spelling. i suppose they sacrificed quality checking for speed but i'm wondering whether or not it was really worth it?
hmm
oh well.
s2b2 has released both the summer special and eleventh issue (i would sarcastically remark that the summer special should be more an /autumn/ issue considering how late it is, but that would be cruel to both writers, who are awesome, and the editor, who is awesomer, if that's even possible. mostly i am probably just miffed since it was originally going to be released on my birthday which, it clearly, was /not/)
decided to take a new route in reading. usually i start from the first story and run all the way to the bottom. this time i'm starting with a rec list and then going from there.
so far i'm not too sure i'm going to do this for later issues since my tastes, so far, are /kind of different/, i.e. i care less for plot and more for a) art, b) humor, and c) smex, BUT!
yes.
nothing else.

fsdfa;sdf come in! can you read me!
in which calc homework boggles my mind and i read too much xkcd (which happens to be /awesome/, even though it's mostly stick figures talking to each other. true story!)
skimming through other people's del.icio.us bookmarks because i can and /also/ because hey look fic recs!
and i didn't even ask for them for christmas!
HSPAs are going pretty smoothly. a few questions here or there made me go adsflja;sdljf but mostly i knew answers! it was kind of amazing.
i'm totally expecting tomorrow's math test to have complex equations involving multitudes of greek letters asking you to find the meaning of life if you are given that the world is round and e^(i*pi) + 1 = 0.
yus.
got nowhere with my layout for xanga and was in fact very miffed that i had to erase sawazu's hands (because zomg hands <3) but you still get to see suzuki tsuta's awesomely prettiful art so i guess it's all okay at the end. the positioning reminds me a lot of
sawazu remains my absolute favorite character of the lot if only because of the line 'I SHALL BECOME GAY! WHAT ARE WOMEN FOR ANYWAY? I'LL MATE WITH YOU GUYS, DESTROY ALL WOMEN, AND SAVE THE EARTH! (?)'
oh man i mean. even though he was drunk. /oh man/ (*note that moments before he'd been dumped by his girlfriend, just after he quit his job)
udaka is cute too, i guess. his hair was terrible though. D: sawazu's hair is just like BLACK BLOB so erasing stuff from it was super easy, but udaka has highlights! and shading! and arrrgggh.
at least it looked okay in the end. :D hooray~
now i kind of want to change my blogger layout (even though i just changed it).
dammit! why you gotta be like that brain. D: haven't i treated you well?
sigh
my computer is being twitchy as well. first mcafee antivirus kept doing its automatic update thing and then it's shield thing and then it's whatever thing; in general, sucking up much more CPU than it should of.
i had ta put it ta sleep. sad day. except not.
so to celebrate having finally gotten rid of the blasted thing i did the automatic updates for my computer too. problem is, updates require a restart to finally kick in.
now, normally the thing asks once, maybe twice, if you wanna restart. you say no and it kinda disappears. no problem-o.
but today, bam! it asks like fifteen hundred times! annoying as fuck. and it won't /stop/ no matter what i try. jesus christ all-mighty.
blasted thing.
>:E

yeah.

art of music : salute to shostakovich
a pretty complex musical and photographic biography of the soviet composer dmitri shostakovich (no offense to russians but /oh god his last name/) .
i kind of like his early music. it's cheerful and playful, but keeps an edge of intelligence and irony that prevents it from being toothachingly sweet and therefore unbearable. it kind of reminds me of 'rhapsody in blue' for some reason.
his later music (specifically after he was publicly denounced for his opera 'lady macbeth') becomes extremely bitter. depressing minor twangs, stilted jumpy dances, harsh grinding chords. (in fact, a lot of them remind me of rachmarinoff, except he's more emo, with his 'swirling into the deep black abyss of utter depression' songs)
the whole group of them i'd like to call 'symphony of the broken toys'. things that might have been happy, a long long time ago, but you can't tell anymore.
the photographs were black and white and most of them were of places shostakovich had been to, with a few of his family. most of the family pictures were rather bland, actually, except for a photo of his third wife in the apartment they lived in in moscow after he died. just her sitting alone on the couch, looking down, mixed with the lecturer talking about how she'd been his 'angel' when he died, nursing him and caring for him and hoping. (she was 28 years younger than him)
mm. yeah. emotional stuff.
we had hot pot tonight! it was yum and delish.
HSPAs tomorrow!
spent today trying to do homework (and failing).
health asked for us to write down what we ate, calculate the servings of grain, meats, etc and figure out if we're missing anything from our diet. it /sounds/ easy but it became and absolute chore when i realized that half the stuff we eat i a) don't know the name of or b) can't translate the name into english without sounding really dumb (for instance, one of the staples of the chinese diet is a vegetable that is literally called 'green vegetable')
oh american culture how you make me cry. D:
finished (sort-of) 2 scileague tests.
my brain feels like it was run through a meat grinder, then a blender, then a juicer, and then baked for an hour. >:(
i need sleeeep...
yus
gud nite.

Saturday, March 3
and then i hit him with the hardcover Milton
i've spent a lot of time this week opening hundreds of new posts on blogger and xanga without actually posting any entries.
i dunno why. i always feel /compelled/ to say something but when i'm met with the blank face of an empty post, i am impossibly intimidated.
man i fail at life.
today i spent a lot of time sleeping. like, a /lot/ of time. i can't say why. i woke up relatively late (8:40 or so) and went puttering about the house until my parents woke to cook me breakfast (pancakes! they were soft and fluffy and delish). puttered around the house some more, checked my email and people's xangas and such like, wrestled my little brother, then decided to soak in the bath.
relieve stress yanno. or summat like that.
well anyway, when i finally pulled my lazy ass out of the tub the waves of sleepiness were practically emanating out of me, so i crawled into bed and slept for three hours.
woke up 2:00 to eat lunch and snatch some of the sponge cake my dad bought (triple-layered with chestnut filling). tried to stay up but my eye was twitching and my brain felt like it had been salted and dried and settled on dragging myself back into the squishcomfort of my mattress.
woke up in time for dinner and have been up since.
i missed all the television i used to watch (toonami and adult swim and suchlike). i keep thinking 'man i oughta catch up this week' but i've kind of lost interests in a lot of the series .naruto i've read via manga, which, btw, is becoming more and more tragic if only because naruto's optimism about sasuke is kind of pitiful and yet /heart breaking/, especially when you find out sasuke's off happily destroying orochimaru; mar i'm waiting to finally hit around where i was reading, which is looking to occur sometime around 'never'; prince of tennis i never held much interest in; bleach is in the same situation as naruto; trinity blood.... man, i adored the manga but the fact that the plot is /extremely/ complicated and convolunted added to my consistent /missing/ of episodes made watching a chore; eureka 7 i kind of miss but not enough to stay up 'til 1:00 to watch, and all the other series i've pretty much forgotten.
yeah.
/yeah/.
i guess the bottom line is i'm simply more likely to stick to a manga than to an anime.
something about freedom to read whenever i like. also, easy rewind!
:D
*loser*
yes.
started doing my history notes because i felt i shouldn't waste my whole weekend doing nothing. since i've been experimenting with cursive again, i thought it would be good practice to do my history notes in script.
man, if it weren't for the fact that my OCPD complex refuses to let me write in print now that half the page is already in incomprehensible loopy script, i'd have stopped long ago.
cursive takes up a lot more room than print, which i was expecting, but not quite to such an extent. this is possibly because i can't quite remember how to form all the letters so i extend the connections from letter to letter to give myself time to think. also, my spelling is shot to hell since half the time i forget if i'm writing an 'i', and 'e', a 't', or an 'l'. D:
plus my cursive just looks /fugly/. like, a single letter looks okay. /two/ letters look okay. in fact one whole word might look pretty on its own. but half a page? just looks ugly.
this maybe have to do with my own inconsistent hand but i'm pointedly ignoring that bit.
*rantrantrant*
yeah.
not much else to say.
goodnite.

i followed you down
so i managed to successfully finish drawing and send off all eight of my little valentines.
it's pretty obvious i'm more inclined to use my pencil for sketches than for any sort of writing. the cards' drawings are all different, but the message inside is roughly the same (happy valentines day! uh. .. have a nice day!).
how i managed to get into ap english and poetry club is beyond the knowledge currently housed in the universe.
save club. where we planned the movie (read: i stole rachel's cupcake) and attempted to draw a poster and i sat there going 'wtf WHERE ARE YOU MAGICAL INSPIRATION. D: '
otherwise, a pretty interesting meeting. i get to bring in chinese take out containers.
saving the environment one recycled container at a time. :D
hmm. yes.
after much procrastination finally finished history notes (it's 12:12. i know the blogspot claims it's like 10:00 but that's 'cuz it picks up the time when you first open the new post window and not the time you publish. why? i haven't the /slightest/) and my leg is twitching and my eye is twitching. in fact, most of my body is either wholly exhausted or acting like i just shot a syringe-ful of adrenaline into my system which is really creepy and disturbing and highly uncomfortable.
uhm.
yes.
well good night.

Wednesday, February 14
i'll never dance again
so there actually was school-less day today.
unfortunately, i wasn't able to draw glittery heart covered valentines like i'd intended and spent my time attempting to do my history notes (which really means i finally read naked ape's Dolls and read A Love Born from Steel because the best ways to distract yourself from history homework are a) manga and b) fanfic)
Dolls is actually kinda interesting, if a little generic. it's a nice story, in a gory violent detective way. a mix between mpd-psycho and yumekui kenbun.
A Love Born from Steel is a pretty slow and easy going story. it reminds me of Human Interest, except the writer of Steel isn't quite as skilled as MadLori. she's a solid writer though, so it's all good. plus her story is a little happier, although no less dramatic. :D
(interestingly enough, both writers' novellas' sequels, despite being WIPs, have more chapters than the original story but less words. i wonder how that works)
overall today i did pretty much nothing, except listen to jason collett songs on repeat (depressing), flip through all my bookmarks 300 times and then some (pitiful), read webcomics, read manga, read fic, and stalk people's xangas.
s'living, what can i say. :D
i really need to change the layout on my xanga, because even though black and white is real dramatic it's killer on the eyes and whenever i move my eyes i see the ghost of the black and it kind of messes with your mind.
nothing else much to say. in fact i hadn't anything to say in the first place, but i felt kind of obligated to post /something/.
ha!
nite.
(happy valentine's day)
(hearts and kisses to all)
